Barbara Cain
Clinical Counselor, LPCC-S
I came onto the counseling scene as an empty nester looking for a way to share my experience and hope with others, and I have never felt more in tune with life than since I started seeing clients in 2014.
My approach to counseling is warm, caring and positive. I use a combination of personal experience, professional models and education to help clients learn how to reframe how they see the world and themselves. Models used include person-centered counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention therapy, and rational emotive behavioral therapy. I’m as directive as clients prefer me to be. Some like homework and tasks to work on between sessions, and others don’t. I’m here to help you achieve the goals that we set together. You are not alone in your journey.
I have a special fondness for helping women face the second half of their lives including parenting young adults, facing an empty nest, perimenopause, reconnecting with their partners during a time of sexual dysfunction, and looking toward what they would like to become in the future.
However, not to exclude others, I truly enjoy working with all adults for work stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive/compulsive disorder and other areas listed below.

I am seminary-trained, so for those who would like Christian counseling to be incorporated into their sessions, I’m happy and qualified to do that. I’m also keenly aware that religion and church have been hurtful to many, so we can work through those realities as well. I also enjoy helping clients who are parenting children/adults who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I can provide hope, a positive and supportive outlook, and ways to connect with your child (regardless of age).

In my free time, I enjoy reading and learning about a variety of work and health-related topics.
